Kim Kardashian has been pretty open about her struggles with psoriasis since she was first diagnosed with it in 2011, and back in 2019 the reality star gave her fans another insight with her skin struggles on her sister Kourtney’s website, Poosh.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star shared a candid photo of her face flare-up, explaining: “Earlier this year is when it got extremely bad – it covered my whole face and a majority of my entire body.
“Today I’m sharing with Poosh my journey with the autoimmune conditions psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, including what’s worked for me and how I’ve adjusted my life since being diagnosed.
“It’s been 13 years since I experienced my first psoriasis flare-up…. I am the only child my mom passed down her autoimmune issue to. Lucky me, lol.”
Kim revealed that she was 25 when she had her first psoriasis flare-up, writing: “I got a common cold, and since psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, this triggered it. It was all over my stomach and legs.” The skin condition has continued to plague her ever since but she told her followers that she doesn’t try to cover it anymore, adding: “I have that one patch on my right leg that is the most visible. I don’t even really try to cover it that much anymore. Sometimes I just feel like it’s my big flaw and everyone knows about it, so why cover it? After this many years, I’ve really learned to live with it.”
And now the newly-single star has taken to the digital pages of Poosh again, to discuss how turning plant-based has helped her get on a handle on the skin condition, which causes those who suffer with it red and crusty patches of skin covered with silvery scales. Psoriasis is thought to be caused by a problem with the immune system, which causes your body to make too many skin cells.
In an article entitled HOW GOING PLANT-BASED Has Helped Kim’s Psoriasis, Kourtney tee’s up an interview with Kim, explaining: “Back in 2019, Kim got candid with us about her journey with two autoimmune conditions: psoriasis, which causes red, itchy patches on the skin, and psoriatic arthritis, which is similar to arthritis and can stem from psoriasis. Since August is Psoriasis Awareness Month, we wanted to catch up with her and see how things were going. She graciously answered our questions, sharing that eating plant-based is one thing that helps immensely.”
Kim reveals that she didn’t initially go plant-based to specifically help with her psoriasis but became interested in the lifestyle after watching documentaries during quarantine. She goes on to explain how it’s made her more conscious about how she treats her body: “It’s made me more mindful about how what I put in my body affects me, not just psoriasis but also my mood, my stress levels, my energy, everything,” she says, adding: “I’ve [also] found that putting ointment or cream on the bad areas and then wrapping them in Saran Wrap helps. But obviously, that can only be done in certain areas.”
