Kitten ‘heroically’ rescued from drain in Perth’s south

A kitten has been “heroically” saved from the depths of a drain in Perth’s south in a dramatic rescue mission that spanned six hours.

Warehouse workers in Welshpool heard the five-week-old kitten’s meows coming from a drain and notified RSPCA WA on Tuesday.

After being called out to the site by the workers, the RSPCA inspector realised the kitten was in serious trouble. However, Perth plumbing company Tunnel Vision came to RSPCA’s aid, volunteering their workforce, time and specialist equipment to help locate the kitten.

The kitten was spotted on a camera that was dropped down the drain pipe and paving was ripped up so RSPCA had better access to the drain.

The inspector was then able to manoeuvre a cat net to capture the kitten and after a total of six hours, the grey and white kitten was lifted to safety.

RSPCA labelled the rescue mission as a story of “hope, heroism, cooperation and catted’ determination”.

An RSPCA spokeswoman confirmed the kitten had been checked by a vet and was in good health.

An RSPCA spokeswoman confirmed the kitten had been checked by a vet and was in good health.

The kitten has been named Jaye after Tunnel Vision’s receptionist “who answered the phone and agreed to help without hesitation”, RSPCA said.

Jaye will stay in RSPCA WA foster care until she’s old enough and strong enough to be adopted.
