Mumbai needed a new head coach after Amol Muzumdar opted out of the job last week. After seven applications for the new job, the MCA decided to go with Salvi, who has worked with Mumbai before.

Salvi, who is currently working as an assistant to bowling coach Bharat Arun at KKR, has been a part of Mumbai’s coaching team in the past. He worked as the bowling coach for the record-time Ranji champions. His role will now has gone bigger as Mumbai aim to win the biggest domestic prize next season.
MCA received seven applications, but the Cricket Improving Committee (CIC) went with Salvi. The other applicants were Vinayak Samant, Vinayak Mane, Atul Ranade, former India player Sameer Dighe, Umesh Patwal and Pradeep Sundaram.
According to The Indian Express, MCA went with Omkar Salvi as they wanted a younger face who would be more equipped with the modern requirements and understand the players’ mentality.
It is understood Sameer Dighe is being appointed as the director of MCA’s Indoor Academy. Rajesh Pawar will be in charge of the under-23s, and India captain Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad will be in charge of the under-19 team.
