Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was close to tears after keeping a clean sheet against Fulham, Jurgen Klopp was revealed.
The Reds kept alive their faint hopes of finishing in the top four with a 1-0 win at Anfield, Mohamed Salah’s first-half penalty securing the three points.
But the Liverpool players perhaps have their keeper to thank more for their win as he made two crucial saves.
The first came at 0-0 when the Brazilian did well to dive to his right and parry a powerful goalbound effort from Cottagers forward Carlos Vinicius.
And on 77 minutes Alisson denied his fellow Brazilian with an even better stop as he got a strong right hand behind a low drive from close range that was sneaking into the Liverpool net.
Klopp revealed Alisson cut an emotional figure after the match and labelled the 30-year-old as Liverpool’s most consistent player this season.
“Alisson was close to crying with a clean sheet,” Klopp said. “It’s pretty rare for us this season! It’s very nice, especially for him.”
“He kept a clean sheet for us, especially in that situation.
“He is the most consistent player we have this season. That is good news. If his level dropped as well we would be completely lost.”
The result sees Liverpool close the gap on fourth-placed Manchester United to four points, although the Red Devils have played two matches fewer than them.
Liverpool’s next match sees them entertain Brentford on Saturday evening.
