Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher admitted that he felt Reds youngster Tyler Morton was left “exposed” by Jurgen Klopp ‘s gameplan in Sunday’s pulsating 2-2 draw with Tottenham.
Diogo Jota nodded home to cancel out Harry Kane ‘s early opener before Andy Robertson nodded the Reds into a late lead.
But a gaffe from Alisson gifted Son Heung-Min an instant equaliser before Robertson was dismissed for a wild tackle on Emerson Royal.
Klopp handed Morton an unexpected start due, but the youngster endured a tough afternoon – something that Carragher felt was down to a combination Liverpool’s gung-ho approach and depleted squad.
“I think they will be disappointed that they went 2-1 up but Tottenham should’ve won the game,” Carragher said on Sky Sports after the game.

“You look at the XG, the big chances they had it could’ve gone either way but the chances Liverpool gave up, Liverpool had a big problem in midfield. Maybe understandable, completely different midfield to what we saw in midweek and I felt at times Tyler Morton, I felt for him a little bit.
“I thought he looked a little bit exposed, left on his own, at times and Liverpool the way they played today was almost two centre-backs and Tyler Morton trying to control Kane and Son and then midfield runners and that’s where the chances came from.
“I thought the midfield was the big problem and they didn’t give help to that young lad, he was left on his own too often.”

The result allowed Manchester City to nudge further ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League title race after their comprehensive 4-0 win over Newcastle.
Klopp was left fuming with referee Paul Tierney after the match following a number of controversial decisions.
Kane was fortunate to escape with just a booking for a strong, studs-up tackle on Robertson in the first half before Robertson was later dismissed for taking a wild swipe at Royal.

And Klopp was left bemused by Kane’s escape after Robertson was given his marching orders for a similar incident, as well as Tierney’s decision to not award a penalty after Jota was seemingly barged over in the box in the first half.
“I saw a big fight from my side,” Klopp added. “The first half was a good game from my team. The second half not exactly as good because we felt intensity of last few weeks and the opponent looked like they had finished warming up. They looked fresher.
“Scoring the second great. Conceding not so much.
“There were a lot of other things that were pretty influential to the game but some of these questions it is better to ask Mr Tierney.
“You can give Robbo a red card. It is not the smartest challenge but that is definitely a red card. No doubt about it. His leg was in the air, it was pure coincidence. Harry cannot judge it. If Robbo’s leg is on the ground it is a broken leg.
“We have a VAR sitting there and he thinks have a look again at Robertson again. Fine, that’s what he is there for. But what did he do in that situation? And then there is the penalty situation with Diogo Jota.
“Mr Tierney told me Diogo [Jota] stops on purpose because he wants the foul. First and foremost if you want to shoot you have to stop because you cannot do both.”
