Knicks Seen As Obvious Trade Destination For Joel Embiid If He Leaves

Joel Embiid has not asked to leave Philadelphia yet, even if he did hint recently that he’d be willing to do so if it meant having a better opportunity to pursue an NBA title.

Should Embiid ever be traded by the 76ers, the New York Knicks could be a viable destination, according to 76ers beat writer Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I would say the Knicks. (Knicks president) Leon Rose used to be his agent. Joel already owns a house up in New York. He’s had it for a while,” Pompey said Saturday on SiriusXM. “And the worst-kept secret is that the Knicks have been compiling and keeping a hold of their first-round draft picks hoping and praying that Joel Embiid asks out.

“If you add Joel Embiid to that team, that team is going to be catapulted to one of the top teams in the East. I can see that absolutely happening.”

That sound you hear is Knicks fans getting excited, although SNY’s Ian Begley previously threw cold water on the idea of Embiid playing in NYC last week, saying that he and the 76ers cleared the air following his comments about potentially being willing to play elsewhere.

So far, the only star Philadelphia is under any pressure to move is James Harden, who requested a trade out of town earlier this offseason.
