Kodak Black Casts Doubt on ‘Kutthroat Bill: Vol. 1’ First-Week Projections

Following the release of his new album Kutthroat Bill: Vol 1, Kodak Black has cast doubt on the projections for its first-week numbers.

In a since-deleted post shared on Instagram, Kodak responded to projections he would push 39k for the record in its first week. He outright refuted the figures, which would mark a reduction from the 60,000 album-equivalent units his February album Back for Everything brought in during its first week.

“STILL A W! BUT … MY ALBUM JUS CAME OUT 2 DAYS AGO ! AND TODAY A SUNDAY , ITS NO WAY A MF CAN PROJECT ITS ONLY SELLING 39K , LOL MY SHIT TOO FYE TO ONLY SELL THAT !” he wrote. “I GUARANTEE IT SELL MORE … ALSO THE STREAMING SYSTEM BEEN FUCKED UP LATELY THIS SHIT AINT USE TO BE LIKE THIS BACK THEN ! EITHER WAY IT GO ITS STILL A W !!!!! MY ALBUM THE BEST SHIT SMOKING ! PLUS NO MAJOR FEATURES , SO TO EVERYBODY WHO HEARD MY SHIT AND A SUPPORTER OF ME BUT DONT KNOW BOUT THE MUSIC BUSINESS TRUST ME, WE WINNING !!!!”

While Kodak has secured plenty of commercial success in the past, with Back for Everything debuting at the No. 2 spot earlier this year, he hasn’t always made a huge splash on the Billboard 200 albums chart. His 2020 full-length, Bill Israel, only brought in 16,000 album-equivalent units. His sole No. 1 project, 2018’s Dying to Live, meanwhile, brought in 89,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

Projections for first-week numbers aren’t always accurate, but Kodak did drop the project on an unusually busy new music Friday. It remains to be seen where he lands on the chart, especially in the shadow of Taylor Swift’s huge new album, Midnights.
