The Commonwealth Games gold medalist Indian duo, who are playing their first tournament since the Indonesia Open triumph last month, defeated the Chinese pair 21-15, 24-22 in the semifinals that lasted for 40 minutes on Court 1.
This is the first time Satwik and Chirag have beaten the pair having previously lost both the encounters against Chinese duo who are ranked second in BWF rankings just one over Satwik/Chirag’s third.
This will be the duo’s third appearance in a BWF Super 500 tournament having won in the previous two such appearances at the 2019 Thailand Open and 2022 Yonex Sunrise India Open.
The Indian duo will next face the winner of the other semifinal between top seeded Indonesian pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardinato or South Korean pair Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae in the summit clash on Sunday (July 23).
Earlier in the tournament, top singles shuttlers like PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth made first round exits, while HS Prannoy and women’s doubles team of Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand crashed out in the second round.
