Kourtney Kardashian reveals the most bizarre fertility advice she was given: to drink Travis Barker’s semen

It’s not often we’re lost for words (luckily, given we’re writers), but Kourtney Kardashian revealing the bizarre fertility advice bestowed upon her by her doctor has honestly left us speechless.

Anyone who has ever tried for a baby before will know that the advice from others come at you thick and fast – whether you asked for it or not – and we’ve heard everything in our time, from having sex in odd positions to eating pineapple while you’re ovulating. And in theory, if you’re keen to get pregnant, upping your pineapple intake or switching from missionary to a slightly different position seem like pretty easy suggestions to take onboard. Right?

What we feel less blasé about is the idea of drinking our partner’s semen, but that’s exactly what the eldest Kardashian daughter has confessed that her doctor told her to do.

Despite the online rumour mill going into overdrive in recent months with speculation that the newlywed was already pregnant (honestly, when are we going to leave women’s bodies alone?!), the reality star has recently opened up about the journey to pregnancy not actually being all that easy.

Opening up about her fertility journey on the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kourtney – who recently wed Travis Barker in a lavish Italian ceremony – explained that they’ve been trying out different techniques in the hopes of welcoming a new Kardashian-Barker to the clan.

Speaking about her thyroid levels – which can interfere with the release of eggs – and a recent conversation she had with her doctor about this, the reality TV star said: “I can’t remember what he said, if it [her thyroid level] was low or high.”

But, she went on, “he told us, well, he told me, that the thing that would help it was drinking [Travis’] come, like, four times a week.”

“I love this doctor,” Travis jokingly replied.

Suddenly that green juice we keep meaning to drink doesn’t seem so bad.

We will caveat, before you head for the glasses cupboard, that neither of the pair have actually confirmed that they’ve tried the technique, and, the eldest Kardashian sister, who has openly struggled with fertility issues, didn’t specify who the doctor is or what he specialises in. Furthermore, as far as we’re aware, Kourt isn’t pregnant, so even if they have, we have zero guarantee yet that it works (and we will NEED 100% guarantee to even start to entertain the idea).

However, we’re not doctors, and though we’re pretty worried that everything we’ve ever learned about sex is wrong if this is true, we thought it was best to seek out an expert for this one. So, does Dr Gareth Nye, a lecturer at Chester Medical School, specialising in maternal and fetal health, think that drinking semen can improve fertility?

“Simply put, no,” Dr Nye tells GLAMOUR. “drinking semen will not help with fertility. How fertile you are depends on a whole set of bodily processes, not least many hormones which are linked to your monthly cycle. Any drank semen will be destroyed by the acids in the stomach long before it would ever influence any part of the body.

“There is no reported literature based around any link so I’m unsure where a medical doctor would suggest this from,” he adds. “Ultimately the digestive and reproductive systems are completed separate and your digestive system will break down anything that could be useful long before it would ever be useful to you.”

With that in mind, remember that time we said we’d try anything once? We’d like to retract that statement, Your Honour. But no judgement if you’re up for trying it, Kourtney Kardashian.
