KSI and promoter Kalle Sauerland have offered an explanation after the YouTuber appeared to knock out Joe Fournier with an elbow. The internet personality defeated Fournier in just the second round of their bout at Wembley Arena.
KSI knocked out Fournier in front of a watching potential opponent in Tommy Fury. However, the 29-year-old appeared to catch his opponent with an elbow.
He has faced a call for disqualification from rival Jake Paul. However, KSI insists he did not even know that he caught Fournier with an elbow.
Asked about the incident, the YouTuber-turned-rapper said: “Honestly, it was so fast that I didn’t even think I hit him with an elbow.”
Sauerland then interjected to give a more detailed breakdown of how KSI did not mean to elbow Fournier. The German claimed it would not have been possible for the move to be intentional.
“Sorry to jump in, but I’ve had these situations happen a few times in boxing,” Sauerland said. “If you look back at it, he throws the first flurry of punches, Fournier’s there and it’s clearly rocked him.
“He comes in and, yes, there is a right hand that goes over, the best shot is if you look behind the head. You can see when the fist goes past the chin, the head moves.
“So the movement has initially been caused by the punch. There is a follow-through, you can see it’s more of a forearm that comes across [Fournier]. It happens in big fights. I had it happen earlier this year with Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jnr.
“It happens in flurries of punches. It’s not intentional, absolutely not intentional. There’s nothing that is going to change the decision. It’s something that happens in boxing.
