For the second time in his career, Kyrie Irving will hit unrestricted free agency with the ability to sign with any team of his choosing.
The Dallas Mavericks reportedly want to re-sign the eight-time All-Star and can offer a five-year, $273 million max contract, more than any other team.
While appearing on NBA Today on Wednesday, ESPN senior writer Ramona Shelburne shared what Irving is looking for in free agency.
“How do you get a max contract? You create leverage,” Shelburne said. “From what I’m told, sources close to the situation, he intends to take meetings when free agency opens.
“Now they’re wide expectations he returns to Dallas. What that contract looks like and what happens with these meetings he intends to take in free agency will be very interesting.”
Shelburne added that Irving is looking for a team he can spend the rest of his career.
