After the season, Kyrie Irving will hit free agency, but the All-Star guard wants to remain where he is.
According to respected NBA reporter Marc Stein, Irving wants to stay with the Dallas Mavericks.
“The rumbles have been that [Kyrie] wants to stay [in Dallas],” Stein said.
The Mavericks acquired the star guard from the Brooklyn Nets just before the NBA trade deadline. The team said they would want to until after the season to address a potential extension with Irving, which they plan on doing, according to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes.
Irving is averaging 26.7 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.1 rebounds on 51 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent from long distance.
Even though the Mavericks have struggled since acquiring Irving and now appear on the verge of missing the playoffs and play-in, taking care of Irving this summer sounds like a priority.
