The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education (KZN DOE) announced that it will be hosting an Indaba on ancestral calling in schools.

WHY PUBLIC PARTICIPATION NEEDED BY KZNDOE ON ANCESTRAL CALLING

The KZNDOE has called for submissions of abstracts on this subject matter as it explores ways to deal with the impact of ancestral calling on teaching and learning in schools.

This call comes a month after a 15-year-old sangoma took her own life after being barred from school because of her calling.

The learner was suspended by the principal of her school in March for mixing a sangoma attire with her uniform.

Although the KZNDOE intervened for the learner to return to school, a lot of damage psychological had been done. As a result, she committed suicide.
