If something can be deep-fried or coated with crushed Cheetos corn snacks, you’re likely to find it at the LA County Fair.
The 2023 fair got off to a good start Friday night with crowds out to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, according to Charlie Boghosian, the man behind Chicken Charlie’s and some of this year’s lineup of outrageous foods.
Visitors to the fair will find creative takes on dill pickles, s’mores, pot stickers and corn cups as well as traditional fair favorites such as funnel cakes and cotton candy.
Here are seven eye-catching items being served throughout the grounds at the Fairplex in Pomona.
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Pot Stickers
What: Boghosian introduced this snack at Chicken Charlie’s during the 2022 OC Fair. The dumplings have a chicken filling. They are coated with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dust and served with mango chutney for dipping.
Price: $8.95 for six.
Find it: Chicken Charlie’s at the Grandstand neighborhood, Broadway across from the Lost Levels Arcade, and the Clock Tower Plaza, Broadway and Palm.
Kool-Aid Sippers
What: These drinks come in collectible Chicken Charlie’s baby bottles. Several flavors are available, including fruit punch and grape.
Price: $20, with $1 refills.

Fried S’mores on a Stick
What: Boghosian’s new concoction is a fat deep-fried, batter-covered s’more filled with molten marshmallows, chocolate sauce and crushed graham crackers.
Price: $10.95 each.

Hot Cheetos Cheese Pickle Pizza
What: This creation was an attention grabber a few weeks ago at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for Dominic Palmieri, also known as the Midway Gourmet. It is being served at Enzo’s Pizzeria, one of several concessions he runs at the LA County Fair. Each slice features a generous number of truly sour dill pickle chips topped by a drizzle of dill sauce. You can order it with or without a dusting of pulverized Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
Price: $9.98 a slice.
Find it: Fun Zone neighborhood, across from the Marketplace.
Loco Ramen Elote
What: This take on noodle soup comes from the Corn Shack, which grills and sells street corn. Noodles are topped with corn kernels, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dust and grated cheese.
Price: $13.25 a cup.
Find it: Fun Zone, near the Yellow Gate, a main entrance.
Michelaguas
What: These flashy agua frescas are served in barrel shaped cups topped with fruit and rimmed with Ricco’s Chamoy. Flavors include strawberry and cream, watermelon. pepino con limon, horchata, and mango.
Price: $16 a cup.
Find it: Stands throughout the Fairplex.
Coconut, Pineapple and Cream Cheese Sambasas
What: These golden, triangle-shaped pastries are on sale at Rafikiz Foodz, which serves Kenyan cuisine. They remind people of samosas from South Asia. There are several savory flavors available at the stand in addition to this sweet one. Others are beef, chicken, spinach, potato and lentil.
Price: $15 for six, and customers can mix and match.

LA County Fair

When: Through May 29.
Hours: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, plus Memorial Day, May 29.
Tickets: $15-$25 for adults; $5-$12 for children 6-12 years and seniors 60-plus. Parking is $17-$22.
Payment: Parking, admission and concert box office payments are cashless. Advance online purchases are cheaper than gate prices.
