LA To Las Vegas Bargain Bus Fares Start At $2

More than 40 million people visit Las Vegas per year, with millions coming from Southern California. But now, Megabus is launching Los Angeles to Las Vegas service that lets you relax on the lower or upper deck, while leaving the driving to them.

Fare really do start at $2, although those eye-popping promotions require advance bookings and come with a big asterisk. Still, even a $100 round trip fare to Las Vegas, San Francisco or other destinations is cheaper than flying, as well as much less hassle than driving.

From 1946, when Bugsy Siegel built the then-glittering Flamingo, to today, most Southern Californians have preferred to drive to the oasis in the desert. Of the 40 million plus visitors to Las Vegas in a good year, more than ten million come from Southern California.

But the 15 freeway is often jammed for miles on end, particularly on holidays and weekends, when it can seem like all ten million are on the road at once. Nineteen-mile traffic jams have been reported., turning what was once a four-hour cruise into an eight-hour marathon.

Flying is an option, and Harry Reid Airport is one of the busiest in the country. A train is said to be on the way by 2027.

But chauffeuring a carload of bachelors or bachelorettes is still a much cheaper way to go then purchasing four round-trip airline tickets. There are other drawbacks to the short flight from LAX, Burbank or John Wayne in Orange County. One must drive to the airport and park or take a Lyft or taxi. Then there’s check-in, security, boarding and ground transport in Las Vegas. While the flight takes just an hour, the trip from home to hotel could easily take three or more hours.

Bus service, like the newly announced Megabus service starting June 1, won’t cut travel time. Indeed, bus passengers could be stuck in congested traffic. But an airconditioned bus will certainly cut wear and tear on drivers, as well as on their cars in the desert heat.

New Jersey-based Megabus, one of the largest bus companies in North America is now selling tickets on the new route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas for travel beginning June 1.

Megabus will offer four trips daily between Los Angeles and Las Vegas with additional travel options available to Barstow, CA and Riverside, CA.

All seats on Megabus are sold on a reservation basis and customers must travel at their specified time and date. Customers are required to be at their departure point at least 15 minutes before their selected trip is scheduled to depart. You’re welcome to bring food on board the Megabus, but no alcohol—not even in checked luggage. More tips on Megabus transportation can be found here.

The Las Vegas to Los Angeles service builds on Megabus’ recently announced return to California. The company currently offers three trips daily between Anaheim, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Fresno, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento.

“Los Angeles to Vegas is a key route for Megabus,” said Colin Emberson, VP Commercial for Megabus. “We’re thrilled to be building upon recent expansions to our network and the timing is great with the one of the busiest travel seasons quickly approaching. Our customers will be able to take advantage of this new route when planning their summer trips.”
