While most actresses work with their chosen designer for months and months ahead of their much-anticipated Oscars red carpet appearance, tweaking necklines, adding embellishments, adjusting hem lengths and occasionally altering colours altogether, it seems Lady Gaga is a lot more like the rest of us; leaving it to the last minute to grab something she likes the look of mere days before the event.
But while for us that looks like rediscovering a dress that we forgot we owned from the darkest depths of our wardrobe and rushing to iron out the creases in-time, for Gaga it’s a slightly more glamorous affair. Shockingly.
In fact, Lady Gaga’s look for the 2023 Oscars first saw the light of day just three days ago, on Versace’s autumn/winter 2023 runway at the Pacific Design Centre in California. Modelled by none other that Gigi Hadid, it was one of the collection’s stand-out pieces which truly deserved a major red carpet moment – we just didn’t expect said moment to be later that very same week.
And while we love the idea that Gaga – who is nominated for the Best Original Song Oscar for “Hold My Hand” and performed the track during the ceremony – was sitting at home watching the Versace live stream, gasped (like the rest of us) at the drop-waist, sheer-panelled gown, grabbed a quick screen-shot and fired it off to her stylist who spent the next three days figuring out logistics, it’s likely that Donatella and Gaga have been working on this behind the scenes for several weeks, if not months.
