Earlier this summer, LeBron James reassured fans that he wasn’t considering retirement, but the Los Angeles Lakers are already thinking about ways to honor him once his career ends.
James has only been a Laker for five seasons, but he’s done a lot in his time with one of the most storied franchises in the league. He won a title in his third season with the team and broke the league’s all-time scoring mark as a Laker last season.
The Lakers chapter of LeBron’s career isn’t over yet, but the team’s owner believes he’s done more than enough to earn his spot among some of the greatest Lakers of all time.

Jeanie Buss announced that the Lakers intend to retire LeBron’s jersey once he is inevitably inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. The only thing left to decide is which one of James’ jersey numbers they will choose – 6 or 23.
LeBron wore the number 23 when the Lakers won the 2020 NBA title in the bubble, so that may be the best option.
That makes three franchises – the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers – that have a great case for retiring LeBron’s number.
The player many believe to be the greatest of all time has certainly left his mark on each team he’s played for.
