After emerging as a breakout sensation during the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff run, the Lakers have made him an incredible contract offer.
On Thursday, reports emerged that the Lakers are going to match any $100 million offer sheets for their playoff starlet. It’s an impressive offer for a player who has averaged just 10 points a game over 125 games and 41 starts.
But after averaging 17 points a game and scoring over 20 points in seven of his 16 playoff appearances, Reaves was bound to get a pay raise from someone. Now the Lakers have him for the long term and by the looks of it, they’re feeling pretty good about it.
Fans on Twitter are stating that Reaves did a great job of betting on himself and deserves every dollar he’s getting. Others feel that it’s too much money for a player who has made so few big contributions to the team over two years in the NBA.
Austin Reaves and Jalen Brunson will have the same contract, and Reaves isn’t an overpay… https://t.co/BdxDhIXap5

Austin is good but giving him 100m’s right now is terrible. https://t.co/ss5dlS1kdY

Austin Reaves went undrafted out of Oklahoma in the 2021 NBA Draft and joined the Lakers on a two-way contract. But he got his opportunity in the NBA pretty quickly in the 2021-22 season, starting 19 of 61 games after making his debut in October.
Reaves received a slightly heavier workload in the 2022-23 season under new head coach Darvin Ham.
After what he did in the playoffs, it looks like Reaves may have a bright future ahead of him.
