Back in February, D’Angelo Russell was a welcome addition to the Los Angeles Lakers, putting up some of his best numbers over the span of just 34 games. But will he be returning to the Staples Center this season?

The answer is a resounding yes. According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are re-signing Russell to a two-year, $37 million contract. Per the report, it includes a player option.

“Free agent G D’Angelo Russell has agreed on a two-year, $37 million contract to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers, co-heads of @CAA_Basketball Austin Brown and Aaron Mintz along with Antonio Russell tell ESPN. Deal has player option. Lakers secure their starting point guard,” Woj wrote.

Lakers fans are applauding the team for making such a wise decision and many believe that their team is going to be superb next year.

“Rob (Pelinka) single-handedly has had the best free agency,” one fan replied.

“The Lakers won free agency don’t @ me,” wrote another.

“LAKERS BETTER THAN THE SUNS,” a third wrote.

Russell averaged 17.7 points per game while hitting career-highs in field goal and three-point percentage. His production dipped in the postseason though, leaving many to question if he really is the quality point guard they need.

But whether you love the move or loathe it, Russell is staying in LA.
