Russell Westbrook could be on the move before the NBA trade deadline next Thursday.
According to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Lakers and Jazz have had “exploratory conversations” around Westbrook.
In 50 games this season, Westbrook is averaging 15.7 points, 7.6 assists and 6.3 rebounds.
Westbrook is firmly in the conversation for Sixth Man of the Year, but the Lakers need to improve their shooting from the perimeter. If it means they need to part ways with him, then so be it.
Haynes said the Lakers are searching for the “most reasonable and logical options available” when it comes to a trade involving Westbrook.
The Lakers have already made a splash this year, acquiring Rui Hachimura in a trade with the Wizards. Acquiring a sharpshooter like Malik Beasley would dramatically increase their chances of competing in the Western Conference.
We’ll see if the Lakers can improve their roster before the All-Star break.
