Jalen Hood-Schifino made sure to not get on the wrong foot with LeBron James.
After the Lakers drafted Hood-Schifino with the No. 17 pick, observers noted that he was born seven days before the Cleveland Cavaliers selected LeBron James in 2003. When asked about that fun fact Tuesday, the rookie jokingly said, “Dang, LeBron’s old” before lauding his teammate’s experience.
On Wednesday, Hood-Schifino clarified in an Instagram Stories post that he has nothing but admiration for James.
“I would never disrespect LeBron,” Hood-Schifino wrote. “He’s one of the best players to ever play this game and I’m blessed to be able to play alongside him! If anything, I’m praising him for what he’s doing at his age.”

To his point, the “Dang, LeBron’s old” soundbite made the rounds without his full comments commending the NBA icon.
“It’s crazy to think about,” Hood-Schifino continued after laughing at the age difference. “Obviously, he’s one of the greatest players to ever play the game. He’s been in the league going on 21 years now. His knowledge of the game and what he can bring to the table … I think it’s going to be good and really beneficial to us.”
His comments were a far cry from Dillon Brooks highlighting LeBron’s seniority while declaring his lack of respect for the four-time scoring champion.
Given his full response and tone, there was no reason anyone should believe Hood-Schifino disrespected LeBron.
