Ludumo Lamati was carried out of the ring and received attention from medics after his team threw in the towel in the final round of his fight against Nick Ball on the Michael Conlan undercard. He collapsed in his corner shortly after the stoppage and was stretchered out of the ring while receiving oxygen from the physios.

Lamati was undefeated going into the bout but a relentless stretch of hits from Ball left his opponent stunned before the 31-year-old’s team were left with just one option but to call for an end to the fight.

In Belfast, the South African struggled to compete with Ball and suffered a 12th-round stoppage defeat as referee Kevin Parker was forced to stop the action before Lamati collapsed and was carried out of the ring.

He was receiving oxygen but broadcaster BT Sport did confirm that he was “doing okay”, conscious and speaking in a positive update after fans were concerned for his well-being and sent many messages of support.

Ball spoke after his victory but admitted he would not be able to celebrate fully until hearing that Lamati was well. “The main thing is Lamati’s health. I hope he’s alright,” Ball said.

“I will be even more happy when I know that, because boxing is no joke. You have got some people not taking it seriously and you can lose your life in here so the main thing is his health.”
