James Gunn and the rest of the titular team will be hoping to go out on their swords when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 finally comes to theaters in a matter of weeks, but don’t expect it to tie into the grand calculus of the multiverse.
Speaking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars has made it perfectly clear that a galaxy far, far away is planning to continue copying Kevin Feige’s homework, even if Dave Filoni has acted quickly to try and distance himself from the comparisons that were always going to be made.
James Gunn wisely chooses to ignore the Multiverse Saga entirely
It’s become clear that the Multiverse Saga isn’t winning everyone over, but at least we know James Gunn was given the freedom to craft Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without having to bend over backwards to tie everything into canon.
It’ll be the most standalone adventure we’ve seen from the MCU in a while, then, which is looking like it’s a blessing in disguise given that the pressure has been heaped on the threequel to arrest the franchise’s alarming decline.
Star Wars copies Kevin Feige’s homework, but won’t even try to pass it off as its own
Having revealed three new feature films and brand new details on an upcoming slate of Disney Plus projects, Star Wars has officially taken the MCU route when it comes to expanding the sci-fi universe, and not everyone is thrilled about it.
It was always going to happen, though, seeing as The Mandalorian has been cross-pollinating with past, present, and future projects since the very beginning, but we’ve seen plenty of big-name properties try to replicate the MCU’s formula and fail.
Dave Filoni runs away from his Star Wars crossover being compared to Avengers: Endgame
When you think of an interconnected universe based on a globally-popular and generationally beloved property that was partly launched into existence by Jon Favreau – one that’s going to end up culminating in a crossover for the ages packed with iconic characters – you’re going to think of Avengers: Endgame.
That could spell bad news for Dave Filoni, with the director of an upcoming event that brings The Mandalorian saga to a close already doing his best to move as far away from the comparisons as possible on the very same day it was announced.
That’s it for another week of Marvel news, but be sure to check back tomorrow, because the circle never stops turning.
