Latest Marvel News: ‘Spider-Man 4’ stalls so Tom Holland glomps onto another MCU film as ‘Spider-Verse’ gets anti review-bombed

As Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse enters theaters to the most rapturous response we’ve seen for a superhero movie for a long while, some think there’s something fishy in the air. Meanwhile, news for the live-action Spider-Verse isn’t as good thanks to some disappointing updates from Tom Holland himself, although it might be worth paying attention to the way he’s lavishing praise on another upcoming Marvel production. Last but not least, Ryan Reynolds could use this sneaky cheat to avoid a Deadpool 3 ban, but the question is… should he?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reveals there’s such a thing as reverse review-bombing, which is bringing its own problems

Unlike many recent films with characters of color in the lead, such as The Little Mermaid and Peter Pan and Wendy, you can’t accuse Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse of getting review-bombed. In fact, the exact opposite is happening, as its sky-high early LetterBoxd scores are making clear — it’s currently one of the greatest films ever made, according to the site’s users. That’s opening a whole other can of worms, however, as fans think its acclaim is being artificially inflated by hardcore superhero movie nuts. Anyone else miss the days when we could just say what we thought about a movie online and it wasn’t a big deal?

It sure sounds like Tom Holland would love to be part of the Deadpool 3 action, and now we’ll be crushed if he’s not

Tom Holland has followed Sony producer Amy Pascal in providing a disappointing update about Spider-Man 4 — like many Marvel productions, it’s being held up by the writers’ strike. Given this, the timing of Holland gushing over his excitement for another upcoming MCU movie feels somewhat suspicious. Yes, the Brit is as excited for the Ryan Reynolds vs. Hugh Jackman face-off in Deadpool 3 as the rest of us. With that threequel filming now, is Holland sneakily trying to get himself a cameo? Seeing as it could be ages until we receive his next Spidey flick, we are more than up for that. Make it happen, Pascal/Kevin Feige.

Speaking of, Ryan Reynolds might not want to take up Deadpool creator’s suspect suggestion for a writers’ strike get-around

As said above, Deadpool 3 has managed to circumvent the writers’ strike halting production, but Ryan Reynolds is forbidden from adlibbing his lines as usual due to the rules of the strike. That’s why the character’s creator Rob Liefeld’s suggestion of a way to get around this moratorium is a little bit dubious. According to him, Reynolds can stick to the scripted lines while filming and then redub his scenes with his own gags in post-production. Which, OK, is technically true, but it’s not entirely in keeping with the spirit of the strike. Liefeld has previously maintained that DP3 is more of a Wolverine vehicle, anyway.

If we wish really hard, a Scarlet Witch movie might finally be in development, so watch the magic unfold as more of the latest Marvel updates drop all the time.
