LATEST: What fate awaits Mason Greenwood today?

Greenwood was expected to learn today whether his bail is extended – once again – after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and domestic abuse earlier this year.

He is currently out on bail, but remains under ongoing police investigation, based on charges related to the “rape and assault of a young woman” and “suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill”.

In the most recent ‘official’ news on the matter, it was confirmed by police that “an application has been made to the courts to have his bail extended beyond Saturday 30 April, but the hearing isn’t expected to be until mid-June. The suspect will remain on conditional bail until the date of the court hearing.”

Last week, it was then revealed that the police investigation remains ongoing, but there has now been another application to extend his bail. That hearing is set to take place at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Thursday.

It will not be held in open court, though, and Greenwood is not expected to attend.

A Ministry of Justice official said: “We can confirm that the application to extend the pre-charge bail will be considered on the 23rd June 2022.”

According to the UK’s Mirror publication, United sources have since confirmed Greenwood remains on bail, the police investigation is ongoing and the player is still suspended.

The dramatic story broke across the globe when one-time girlfriend Harriet Robson was seen to have shared a post on Instagram at the end of January, which revealed bruises and cuts on her body with a caption stating: “To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me”.

The series of disturbing images clearly indicate a case of domestic abuse, while an audio clip seemingly implicates Greenwood in abusive and threatening behaviour.

In April, United were forced to deny suggestions Greenwood was about to return to training after it was noticed that his player profile was still included on their website.

A statement from United read: “There has been no change whatsoever in Mason’s status. We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was removed from the squad in January.

“This was in order to remove Mason from interactive elements of the app, such as team predictions. However, his profile was never removed from the website as he remains a Manchester United player, albeit not currently part of the squad, while the legal process unfolds.”
