Yellowstone is treating you to the only Thanksgiving feast you’ll need this year with the Every Episode Feast beginning Thursday, Nov. 24 at 11am. Native American heritage and history is central to celebrating Thanksgiving, and Yellowstone has a track record of bringing Native communities and stories into the spotlight. In season five, there’s a new struggle brewing for our favorites on the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, and catching up with all the pieces of how they got here and where the relationship between John Dutton and Chief Thomas Rainwater is heading is essential.
You’ll also get a front-row seat to John Dutton as he walks the path none of us expected, leading him to serve as Governor of Montana in season five. Kelly Reilly calls Beth Dutton haunted
No one roots for Beth Dutton as hard as Kelly Reilly does, and it makes sense because she knows her more intimately than any of us ever could. Reilly is in tune with what she must channel to bring the ups and downs of Beth Dutton to life, and she does it with so much emotion that we can’t get enough.
In a chat with Town & Country, Reilly says that an accurate (and emotional) description of our beloved Beth this season is that she’s tormented, to a degree, by herself.
“Haunted by herself, haunted by her own actions, inactions maybe. That’s not something that you suddenly, over one season, just get over and find happiness. So I relate to the fact that there are things that she can’t get over, even though I, Kelly, would love her to find peace with some things so she can maybe linger in some happiness.”
Beth doesn’t see happiness in the same capacity as most around her, but even Reilly notes that it might be a nice change of pace for Rip and Beth to get their fairytale ending one day. That day isn’t coming any time soon; we’re not sure Beth would know what to do with it if it were actually to happen. In the same interview, Reilly says that Beth feeds off of disorderly things.
“She lives off conflict, She has to feed off it. She gets energy from it.”
It’s in the Dutton blood to be drawn to conflict, but Beth has the ultimate cure for it, at least to some degree: Rip Wheeler. He might not be able to stop the storms from rolling or help her make choices that would make them less intense, but he’s there to comfort her when they show up. He’s the mighty force in which she feels small and safe like she doesn’t constantly have to be the “bigger bear.” Rip is her secret weapon, and she’s lucky to have him.
Fans love this real-life connection on Yellowstone
A Reddit thread brought up an interesting connection in Yellowstone that some fans hadn’t figured out yet. We’ve seen a young Lloyd in three flashbacks throughout Yellowstone so far, but in the season five premiere, we got a glimpse of him that was more in-depth than the others.
Fans took to Reddit to bring up how well the actor played the role of a young Lloyd, down to the voice and mannerisms, and there’s a good reason for that.
Forrest Smith plays young Lloyd; that’s right — Forrie J. Smith’s own son breathes life into the character his father plays.
Fans also took the opportunity to shout out Josh Lucas, who plays a young John Dutton, and though there’s no familial tie there, he plays him with dedication, near perfection, and a tone that will send shivers down your spine.
Fans are hoping for some scenes of young Lloyd and John together.
With John Dutton as governor, many fans think the antics will be kept alive via flashback scenes, meaning we’ll likely see more of them together.
Things will undeniably have to change now that John Dutton is governor, but don’t be too hasty in thoughts that it’ll take the fire out of the equation. John is still a family-first man and won’t ever turn back on his promise to his father, no matter what it takes. He might be in charge of Montana, but he’s the leader of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch first, for better or for worse.
