On Thursday, Law and Order SVU fans were forced to say goodbye to Detective Amanda Rollins (played by Kelli Giddish) after the character traded in her badge and gun for a new career. Although her storyline came to an emotional end, Kelli teased a potential return to the long-running crime series.
After her first appearance in season 13, Rollins decided to embark on a new career path following a traumatic case which resulted in her being shot.
The incident left her dealing with PTSD and after it began to affect her home life, she opted to try her hand at teaching.
After she previously impressed staff at a local university, with a lecture on forensics psychology Rollins said goodbye to the precinct for good.
However, as the episode also marked the show’s mid-season finale, fans could see the Rollins back on screens sooner than expected.

Speaking on a potential return, the actress hinted: “She’s still in New York. I think the door’s open, sure.
“I loved working with everybody that was ever involved with SVU and I know they feel the same about me, so if it works in a storyline or whatever.
“I don’t think the audience would ever hate to see that,” Kelli told Entertainment Weekly.
Rollins’ comeback was also teased by showrunner Julie Martin who paid tribute to the actress and shared: “Kelli is a bright light on set, a star on and off the screen.”
During the episode, Carisi had mysteriously asked the SVU team to meet him at the courtroom, where they arrived assuming it was business related.
As they walked into the unexpected wedding ceremony, Rollins said: ”Carisi and I were talking, and we realized that marriage is a lot like a crime.
“We have a motive, opportunity, I figured all we needed were the witnesses,” she explained to her awe-stricken friends.
After the surprise, Carisi and Rollins got married during an intimate ceremony surrounded by their loved ones.
Earlier in the year, Kelli confirmed her exit from the show with a statement which read: “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life.
“I’ve been so fortunate to be a part of the Law & Order family for the last 12 years.
“There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well.
“I started on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful I got to spend so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life.”
Law and Order SVU season 24 returns to NBC in the USA on Thursday, January 5, 2023. A UK release date has yet to be announced.
