Trevor Strnad, the lead singer of metal band The Black Dahlia Murder, has died at the age of 41.

The death of the American singer was announced by the band who described him as ‘loved by all that met him.’

A cause of death has not been officially announced, however the band did include a phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at the end of a statement that they released confirming his death.

The band released a statement about Trevor’s death via the official The Black Dahlia Murder band Instagram account on Wednesday.

Sharing a blank screen, the post stated: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trevor Scott Strnad.

“Beloved son, brother, and Shepard of good times, he was loved by all that met him.

“A walking encyclopedia of all things music. He was a hugger, a writer, and truly one of the world’s greatest entertainers.

“His lyrics provided the world with stories and spells and horror and whimsy. It was his life to be your show.”

Fans and followers expressed their shock and sadness with musician Phil Bozeman among those reacting, writing: “This is terrible news. My condolences to all of you and his family.”

While guitarist Nick Hipa wrote: “Devastating loss of an incredibly talented and wonderful human being. Love and condolences to you all.”

Many others took to Twitter to send words of condolence.

Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta tweeted: “RIP Trevor Strnad, you’ll be missed dearly, my deepest condolences to TDBM, his family, friends & fans. Thanks for all the laughs, the stories, the music, & so much more.”

While Stray From The Path drummer Craig Reynolds wrote: “metal wouldn’t be what it is today without him. can’t believe it. RIP trevor strnad. every death metal band with two singers only has two singers because neither of them could do what he did.”

The Black Dahlia Murder was named after the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia.

The group began in 2000 with Trevor as a founding member and the line-up being finalised in 2001 – the same year they released debut EP What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse.

Their first full-length album, titled Unhallowed, was released in 2003, and their ninth album, Verminous, was released in April 2020.

The group were due to perform this summer at the Dynamo Metalfest festival in the Netherlands in August.
