Arsenal Under-23 Head Coach Kevin Betsy is the target of League Two side Crawley Town who are on the hunt for a new manager.

The West Sussex club finished a respectable 12th in the fourth division this past season but manager John Yems was sacked before the end of the campaign amidst allegations of racial abuse.

Chelsea Women’s boss Emma Hayes had emerged as the surprise frontrunner for the job after another successful campaign with the Blues, but Sportsmail now report that Crawley have dropped their interest in her, with Betsy their preferred choice.

After a long playing career that saw him move up and down the Football League, Betsy retired in 2015 and immediately turned to coaching, working his way up through the England youth levels before taking charge of the Arsenal U23s in 2021.

The 44-year-old guided the young Gunners to third in the Premier League 2 table in his first season and has emerged as a highly rated coach, attracting interest not only from Crawley but also from fellow League Two side Swindon Town and League One’s Cheltenham Town.

Arsenal will be keen not to lose Betsy, who they will no doubt view as a key asset to their impressive academy set-up that has produced many great Gunners players over the years including current first-team members Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.

Other names supposedly in the frame to take over the reins at the Broadfield Stadium include Ian Holloway, Michael Appleton and Sol Campbell.
