Michael Jordan’s tenure as majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets was an objective failure. It’s impossible to argue otherwise.
But should Jordan’s failed ownership affect his basketball legacy and argument as the GOAT? Yes, says Fox Sports’ Nick Wright.
Wright has made this argument a couple of times since news of Jordan selling his majority stakes broke last week. He did so again today on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
Wright is an unabashed LeBron James fan–he has King James as his No. 1 all-time player, with Jordan No. 3–so that might lead some to take his words with a grain of salt.
His main point of contention is that if Jordan had built a winner in Charlotte, his supporters would have used that as another hallmark of his overall greatness, the same way they do his iconic personal shoe brand.
Therefore, because he failed, it should impact his legacy at least slightly.

Jordan took a majority stake in the Hornets back in 2010 for the price of $275 million.
He recently sold it off for a reported $3 million.
