On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers said LeBron James continues to make progress in his recovery from the right foot injury that has kept him out of action since February 26.
After that announcement, reports from Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski indicated the 38-year-old star could be aiming to return for the final few games of the regular season.
This would be encouraging news for the Lakers, but James pumped the brakes on his looming comeback with a tweet implying that the reports were inaccurate.
“There wasn’t an evaluation today and there hasn’t been any target date for my return,” James wrote. “I’m just working around the clock, every day (3X a day) to give myself to best chance of coming back full strength whenever that is. God bless y’all sources. I speak for myself!”

The Lakers are 7-5 without James in the lineup after last night’s 122-111 win over the Phoenix Suns. Center Anthony Davis and guard Austin Reaves have been leading the charge for LA as of late.
Currently, the Lakers are 36-37 overall and in 10th place in the Western Conference with nine games remaining. They’re 0.5 games ahead Utah and New Orleans, who are tied for 11th place, but only 1.5 games behind the sixth-place Golden State Warriors.
It’s quite possible LA can finish in the top 6 and avoid the Play-In Tournament–or they could drop below 10th place and not even qualify.
