LeBron James has already done a Space Jam sequel. Is his version of The Last Dance next?
According to Los Angeles Lakers radio voice John Ireland, that may be the case. During an upcoming episode of the Awful Announcing Podcast, Ireland revealed that Andy Thompson, who produced The Last Dance, has been filming the Lakers’ throughout this season.
“I hope I’m not talking out of school here, Andy Thompson, who was the guy who shot The Last Dance, Mychal Thompson’s younger brother, who has worked for the NBA for 30 years, has spent a ton of time with us this year,” Ireland said. “So if LeBron ever wanted to go down this road, I think Andy is stockpiling that just so he has it and has the opportunity to tell the story.
“So if we go on a magical run to the title, Andy, who was the driving force behind The Last Dance, most of the stuff you saw in those 10 episodes was shot by Andy Thompson. And Andy’s a smart guy, he’s already working on, potentially, a story about the end of LeBron’s run like he had one for the end of Jordan’s run.”
Back in 2020, Ireland shared that a film crew had been following Kobe Bryant around during the final years of his career. Now, it seems like James is getting the same treatment.
Given the impact LeBron has had, a documentary series on his career is probably a given at some point.
The fact that the man who helped birth The Last Dance is said to be gathering footage of The King only adds to the intrigue.
