Jurgen Klopp has Liverpool on course to challenge for Premier League glory, but NBA superstar LeBron James wants individual glory to go along with a second league title in three years.

The Merseysiders sit second in the table but are only three points below leaders Manchester City with two games to go. Liverpool could feasibly complete a rare quadruple if they manage to close that gap, with the club having already lifted the EFL Cup before advancing to the finals of both the FA Cup and Champions League.

That’s not the only silverware that could be headed to Anfield, however, after Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold were nominated for end-of-season honours. Salah—who also leads the Premier League’s Golden Boot race with 22 goals thus far—is in the ballot for Player of the Season, while Alexander-Arnold is hoping to be named Young Player of the Season.

It’s the third season in a row that England full- back Alexander-Arnold has been nominated for the Young Player prize, having won in 2020. Salah was named Premier League Player of the Season following his first season at Liverpool (2017/18) and has been nominated every year since.

James, who has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player on four occasions, quoted Liverpool’s tweet confirming their star duo had been nominated for awards and wrote to his 53.1million followers: “They both get votes from me!”

Alexander-Arnold has helped the Reds assemble the second-best defence in England this term, not to mention contributing an astonishing 12 assists from the back. Ironically, the only Premier League player to record more this season is his team-mate, Salah (13).

Who do you think should be named Premier League Player of the Season? Let us know in the comments section.

Basketball icon James has been a part-owner in Liverpool since April 2011 when he purchased a two per cent stake in the club. His interest in football only appears to have risen since then, and for good reason considering the upwards trajectory they’ve enjoyed during the Klopp era.

James is hoping to see his Liverpool colleagues thrive after he and the Los Angeles Lakers fell way short of expectations this year. Despite being cast as Finals favourites heading into this campaign, the Lakers fell short as James failed to appear in the NBA Play-offs for the first time since 2005.

Liverpool can provide a welcome distraction as they approach their final run-in, beginning with Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea. They then face back-to-back games against Southampton and Wolves before facing Real Madrid in the Champions League decider.
