LeBron James forever altered the NBA landscape 13 years ago.
On July 8, 2010, ESPN held a TV special where James declared that he was “taking my talents to South Beach” to play for the Miami Heat. To many sports fans, The Decision still lives in infamy for breaking the hearts of Cleveland Cavaliers fans and beginning an age of enhanced star empowerment.
Fans reflected on the watershed sports moment during Saturday’s anniversary.
“The day the Super Team era began,” a fan noted.

“Reminder that this event — a charity event where the best basketball player in the world, the reigning MVP, announced his new team he was signing with, is considered the only bad thing he’s done in his career,” a fan wrote.
Reminder that this event; a charity event where the best basketball player in the world, the reigning mvp, announced his new team he was signing with, is considered the only bad thing he's done in his career. The fact he's been that good that we turned that into a negative. Lol. https://t.co/xEYpIhYPkp

After seven seasons in Cleveland, James joined forces with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. The trio won four straight Eastern Conference titles and two championships together.
LeBron was arguably at his strongest with the Heat. He averaged 26.9 points per game with a .543 field-goal percentage and won back-to-back MVPs in those four seasons.
While The Decision turned James into basketball’s biggest heel, most fans have forgiven him for the controversial special. The Ohio native picked a more subdued method of announcing his return to the Cavaliers in 2014, penning an essay in Sports Illustrated.
