LeBron James didn’t just help the Lakers improve their in-season tournament record to 3-0 on Friday night, he inched closer to making NBA history.
With his 35-point performance against the Trail Blazers in the books, James is now 42 points away from being the only NBA player to ever reach 39,000 career points.
It’s highly unlikely another player will ever be able to join this club strictly because James has been so productive and durable for two decades.

If James continues to produce at this level, he could end up creating another club.
“Bron is going to hit 40k before he retires watch,” one fan said.
Another person wrote, “I seriously don’t know if points record may ever be broken. And I know people back in Kareem’s era thought the same.”
James is averaging 25.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game this season. The four-time MVP will be back in action on Sunday night against the Rockets.
