LeBron James confirmed he’s not retiring just yet.
The NBA’s new all-time scoring leader received an ESPY Award for Best Record-Breaking Performance. During Wednesday night’s acceptance speech, James addressed his playing future.
“I don’t care how many more points I can score or what I can or can’t do on the floor,” James said. “The real question for me is, can I play without cheating this game? The day I can’t give the game everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Luckily for you guys, that day is not today.”

James created questions over his status when saying he had “a lot to think about” after the Denver Nuggets defeated his Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. Seven weeks later, the 38-year-old confirmed he’s returning for his 21st season.
LeBron proved he has plenty left in the tank when averaging 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game last season. Sticking around for at least two more years would also give him the chance to complete his goal of playing alongside his son, Bronny.
Given those desires, LeBron caught the NBA world off guard by publicly pondering retirement in May. Many fans will be relieved to hear he’s coming back for the 2023-24 season.
