Leeds have made contact with former River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo as they look to find a new boss, but the 47-year-old is reportedly unconvinced by the approach.

The West Yorkshire club are looking to replace Jesse Marsch after he was sacked earlier this week, although they did pretty well with no manager on Wednesday night as they drew 2-2 at Manchester United.

The likes of Carlos Corberan and Andoni Iraola have been touted as possible new Leeds managers but both moves are now off the table and Leeds are looking elsewhere.

Gallardo has emerged as a contender for the role and has been offered the chance to take a Premier League job for the first time in his career.

There are differing reports over how he has responded to the offer, but none are positive, with ESPN stating that he has outright rejected any proposal, while Argentine channel Canal 26 reporting that he is considering the offer but is unconvinced as he does not speak English.

The ESPN report suggests Gallardo is only interested in taking over a new club pre-season and building a project from there.

If Leeds could find a way to persuade Gallardo to move to Elland Road then he would be quite the coup for them after his work in Argentina.

Gallardo spent over eight years in charge of River Plate, winning a string of titles including two Copa Libertadores, leaving the club in November as its consensus most successful ever manager.

The former Argentina international is expected to move to Europe for a high profile role, but he is yet to take that step, with Sevilla also linked with his services.
