Legoland Windsor resort is a magical family stay from the moment you get there

AS any fan of the Three Little Pigs will tell you, the more bricks the better.

With 80million or so to play with, Legoland Windsor Resort really takes some beating.

The theme park’s onsite hotel is celebrating its tenth anniversary and the attraction is rolling out the red carpet for guests with special games, challenges and goodies.

Our family of five couldn’t wait to get stuck in.

The festivities started with a dastardly treasure hunt in which our three children – Poppy, six, Lucas, four, and 15-month-old Harry – were tasked with cracking a four-digit code to find a hidden bounty.

We dashed to our Premium Pirate Room without delay and in no time at all the kids had solved the mystery and collected their prize – lanyards, pop badges and, of course, Lego.

Figurines of favourite characters are mounted on the reception wall, while in the bedroom, bunk beds adorned with a skull and crossbones are hidden in a private nook, away from Mum and Dad.

The hotel is also home to Bricks. It’s a family restaurant that takes child-friendly to another level, with 22 epic Lego models dotted across the room and giant characters doing meet-and-greets as guests tuck into burgers, chips and halloumi salads.

Plus, there’s a swimming pool, pirate-themed water park with two slides and a pair of water cannons, as well as regular shows over at the main park.

Children can watch as pirates battle each other in action-packed sword fights.

With so much to see and do, the kids didn’t even bother to switch on their own TV.

But the best was yet to come. On our first morning, we were at the front of the queue to enter the park and the resort’s hotel entrance takes you directly to Lego Mythica, home to the newest and most awesome rides.

This meant that, as crowds began to build, we’d already whizzed around the interactive Hydra’s Challenge water ride, trying to keep our breakfast down.

The children had a blast on the jet boats as they ducked under sprays of water, although I was much less successful at staying dry.

Dodging baddies

Then it was on to the Flight Of The Sky Lion – the UK’s first flying theatre, where even the most cynical would struggle not to be impressed by its sheer scale and mind-boggling attention to detail.

After being greeted by our guide Bits and Bobs (a rainbow-coloured flying unicorn) we were strapped in for the show and soon flying across Mythica, with wind and mist lashing our faces, and dodging some mean-looking Lego baddies.

Thanks to help from Maximus the winged lion and Crystal Flame, a bird that literally blows hot and cold, we made it out in one piece.

While the kids go wild on the rides, adults can keep themselves fuelled and energised with coffee at the onsite Costa.

With so much adventure at your finger tips, you will definitely need it.
