Lerone Murphy knocks Makwan Amirkhani out cold at UFC 267.

UFC featherweight Lerone Murphy earned the biggest win of his young UFC career with a vicious knockout over Makwan Amirkhani at UFC 267.

It wasn’t going well for Murphy early, as Amirkhani demonstrated his experience on the ground and overwhelmed Murphy with his quick transitions. The tide began to turn for Murphy in Round 2, as he found his range on the feet and got his boxing going against Amirkhani.

He began to land some stiff leg kicks to the body that stumbled Amirkhani, as he found his rhythm and dictated the pace of the fight.

After forcing Amirkhani to the outside, Murphy perfectly timed a knee as Amirkhani went in for the takedown, knocking him out cold and finishing the fight.

Lerone Murphy is a UFC featherweight prospect to keep an eye on

Murphy came into the UFC 267 bout as an undefeated featherweight prospect, having earned dominant wins over Ricardo Ramos and Douglas Silva de Andrade. Mostly known as a boxer, Murphy has worked on his submission defense over time, as evident in his bout against Amirkhani.

Before signing with the UFC in 2019, Murphy earned highlight knockouts during brief stints on the U.K. regional scene.

Amirkhani had some recent struggles entering UFC 267, having lost three of his last four bouts. This included a knockout defeat to Shane Burgos followed by a unanimous decision loss to Edson Barboza.

With the victory over Amirkhani, Murphy introduced himself to the bulk of the UFC fan base as a potential dark horse in the UFC’s featherweight division.
