The Perth Royal Show has returned for 2022, with West Aussie families able to enjoy the event largely as it was pre-pandemic.
Perth’s yearly source of family fun on the spring holidays at Claremont Showgrounds was cancelled in 2020, while show organisers were particularly selective with rides and attractions last year with a COVID quarantine period still in place.
Punters at this year’s show, dubbed the “hottest ticket in town”, are still subject to heightened biosecurity measures in response to the elevated risk of foot-and-mouth disease, following an outbreak in Indonesia.

There are also restrictions around animals, as well as sanitation mats and hand sanitiser stations at the entrance to livestock displays.
Hundreds queued at the main entry early on Saturday, although confusion over opening times meant people who arrived expecting to be let in at 9am had to wait an extra hour.
Despite the large lines at the front of the show, which also opened on AFL grand final day, sideshow alley was quieter than normal. It meant thrillseekers faced short wait times, if any, to hop on their favourite rides.

However the cuddle farms and animal pavilion proved popular again, with families packing in to meet a farm animal.
Those wanting to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth can do so at this year’s event with a book of condolences available for showgoers to sign.
An official acknowledgement is also posted on the Perth Royal Show website.
The Royal shows is on daily from 10am to 9pm and will run until October 1.
