Yes, there’s a lot of competition for the tasty title, but Kulshan Trackside lands firmly at the top of the heap when it comes to summer fun accompanied by award-winning craft beer in this beer-obsessed corner of the country.
On the waterfront
There’s been a steady effort to rebuild and revitalize a Bellingham, Wash., neighborhood that was once home to a Georgia Pacific paper mill. Remnants of that era haven’t been scrubbed from the landscape, but stand as a reminder of Bellingham’s history as a once-booming lumber town. The temptation might be to call the rustic look industrial chic, but let’s not go there. It’s the kind of cool that’s completely original.
There’s still plenty of room to develop around this desirable chunk of land, where beautiful brick buildings are boarded up and a nearby high-end condo project seems to be moving at a sluggish pace.
Kulshan Trackside, however, should be held up as a shining example of turning lemons into something well worth sipping. Let’s walk through that portal.
Who’s ready for some corn hole?
Just a few blocks from downtown, Kulshan Trackside feels like it’s on another planet. In this magical universe fashioned out of used shipping containers, there’s a rotating selection of food trucks offering beer-friendly fare such as pizza, fish and chips, curry-topped fries from Simmering Tava and gyros from Greektown.
Most of what’s parked Trackside adjacent is set up to order online, so no standing in line getting hangry. Thanks, technology!
Once you’re enjoying your food and drink at one of the many picnic tables or on the expansive lawn, it’s time to consider that post-meal activity. Of course, there’s almost always a friendly corn hole competition heating up.
Oh, and about that beer. Who’s up for another round?

And if that all wasn’t enough, let’s check out the calendar for live music. Most of the time, the shows are free, though this weekend there was an action-packed festival called Tune Up. Set your intentions to hit that up next summer. Or, feast on a string band Sunday, starting at 3 each weekend.
Still need convincing? There’s a free parking lot across the street.
