6PR radio presenter Liam Bartlett has announced his surprise resignation from the Nine Perth-based radio station.
The Perth shock jock — who is also a 60 Minutes reporter — will quit both roles in November.
Bartlett revealed the decision in a statement read by colleague Mark Gibson on Friday evening.
“It’s been a real privilege and an honour to be allowed to present the morning program in my home state and be part of the wonderful 6PR team,” the statement read.
“My time at 60 Minutes has afforded me so many memorable moments in the footsteps of some of the best in the business. I’m extremely appreciative of all the opportunities.”
Bartlett’s career spans more than 30 years in print, radio and television.
The station’s flagship talkback programs hosted by Liam Bartlett and Gareth Parker suffered dramatic losses in ratings across the past two years.
Listeners showed they were tiring of the pair in May when their ratings plunged, while ABC breakfast and morning shows began experiencing a huge spike in ratings.
The noticeable drop pushed 6PR out of the top five overall stations for the first time — replaced by 6JJJ — instead, sitting in seventh position behind 92.9 Triple M.
The West Australian in August revealed the Nine star was in a neighbourhood dispute after opposing a change to frosted glass on the balcony balustrades of Nedlands homes across from his property.
The case is currently with the State Administrative Tribunal after the city council voted not to allow Bartlett’s neighbours to have clear glass.
Bartlett’s replacement at 6PR is yet to be announced.
