Liam Neeson says he ‘fell in love’ on the set of Blacklight

Liam Neeson has spoken about the “agonising” cramps he suffers in his legs and what has caused him to be in such pain.

The 69-year-old Hollywood actor, known for his tough guy roles on the big screen, eventually found out that the cause for his health problems was his high caffeine intake.

Liam has said that the pain has been so intense that it has made him “cry” and he sought the help of a massage therapist, who works on Broadway, to help him cope with the issue.

The star of the Taken trilogy also said that he has been in contact with GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes, who has spoken about the chronic back pain he suffered when hosting ITV’s This Morning.

The actor said he told Eamonn, while they were sitting together on a plane: “Rest is rust and motion is lotion.”

Speaking on Radio 5 Live, a couple years before, Liam revealed the agony he had been in.

He said: “I was getting shooting pains in my leg, cramps in the middle of the night.

“The pain made me cry it was agonising.

“A friend of mine set me up with this massage therapist who does all the dancers on Broadway and he worked on me.”

Liam said that he was hopeful the therapist would be able to bring some relief to the cramps.

He continued: “He got rid of lactic acid crystals in my leg and afterwards.”

The Mayo Clinic has explained that lactic acids which build up in muscles can be a result of overuse and dehydration, but in Liam’s case it was due to his caffeine consumption.

The actor continued: “[The therapist] said ‘do you drink a lot of caffeine?’ and I said yes I do,” Neeson explained.

“He said ‘I would maybe drop it if you can and switch to decaf’ and I did.

“And the cramps disappeared by 90 percent.”

Since giving up caffeine, Liam has admitted that he is now “addicted” to another beverage, with decaf tea now his drink of choice but he has said that he’s noticed the difference in his health since turning to the decaffeinated option.
