Liam Smith wants to rematch Chris Eubank Jr at Anfield and challenge Gennady Golovkin for his middleweight world titles before signing off with ‘swansong’ fight.

Smith secured devastating stoppage win over Eubank Jr in Manchester on Saturday night in one of the biggest victories of his career to date.

The Brighton fighter, who suffered the third defeat of his career after losses to Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves in 2014 and 2018 respectively, has a rematch option which his trainer Roy Jones Jr believes will be activated.

Former light-middleweight champion Smith has welcomed the rematch talk and wants to bring the fight to Anfield later this year. Having moved up in weight and beaten Eubank Jr 160lbs, he is also targeting Kazakh legend Golovkin, who holds the IBF and WBA middleweight titles.

Asked to pick his next three opponents, Smith told the DAZN Boxing Show: ‘My three opponents would be Chris Eubank Jr at Anfield, Triple G for the titles and maybe a swansong in Liverpool as champion.’

Golovkin, one of the most feared fighters over the last decade, lost to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in their trilogy fight last September but still holds 50 per cent of the world championship gold in his division.

Smith is in the frame for titles shots at 154lbs where Jermell Charlo holds all four belts. The undisputed champion is currently recovering from a hand injury with the Liverpudlian believing he is in a good position to stay at middleweight and challenge Golovkin.

‘It puts me in a good position at 160,’ he said. ‘I said before it, if I beat Chris Eubank Jr it leaves me in a very good position whether it is 154 or 160. It hasn’t harmed my reputation and made me drop in  any ranking.

‘I have even more options now. We know title titles are all tied up at 154, Charlo holds all four of them and he’s out injured at the moment. So it leaves me with good options for me.’

Eubank Jr was scheduled to fight Conor Benn last October only for the latter’s failed drug tests to scupper those plans just days before the opening bell.

Asked if it now makes sense for Smith and Benn to meet, the former said: ‘Not really. I am not going to sit here and call Conor ben out. If Conor Benn wants to fight me and come for me, fire away and be my guest.

‘But Conor has never really [called me out]. Even after the Eubank loss, he made fun of him losing but he never really mentioned fighting myself.

‘I have seen a lot of people on social media saying “well what about Benn versus Smith now”, which might make sense, but we will see.’
