Liang Wenbo has been suspended from the professional snooker tour again, this time for ‘an ongoing investigation into allegations of misconduct.’

The 35-year-old was due to play Peter Lines in an English Open qualifier on the morning of Thursday 27 October, but was stopped from doing so.

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association has now confirmed that he is suspended from all WPBSA sanctioned events while the investigation is ongoing.

The nature of the misconduct allegations has not been divulged, but they are not related to Liang’s conviction for assault earlier this year.

A statement on Thursday read: ‘The WPBSA has today suspended Liang Wenbo from attending or competing in WPBSA sanctioned events.

‘This is due to an ongoing investigation into allegations of misconduct. The suspension will remain in place until the conclusion of the investigation or the outcome of disciplinary proceedings.

‘The WPBSA will not comment further until the investigation is complete.’

The 35-year-old was suspended earlier in 2022 after being given a 12-month community order in April having pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in Sheffield in July 2021.

Liang was caught on CCTV repeatedly punching and kicking the woman and was seen dragging her to the floor, continuing the assault when another man tried to intervene.

The sentence given by the criminal court was the 12-month community order and to pay £1,380.

The verdict was made public, with the snooker authorities unaware of the case until the sentence was announced. They responded by suspending Liang pending disciplinary proceedings, which meant he missed the World Championship.

In June it was announced that the result of the independent disciplinary process was that Liang would be banned from World Snooker Tour events until 1 August, ruling him out of the Championship League and European Masters.
