Perth-born Breeana Smith was given her grandma’s vintage skirt before a trip to Paris, but little did she know this gift would later create the foundation of an international fashion brand stocked in more than 60 countries.
Smith fell in love with the pleated element of her skirt and partnered with close friend Iuliia Ievdokymenko to make the fabric manipulation technique their signature, and, as they say, the rest is history.
“We wanted to make women feel beautiful and loved the way this fabric manipulated to do so,” Smith told AAA.
Since first partnering with Nedlands retailer Coco & Lola in 2019, womenswear label L’IDÉE WOMAN has gone from strength to strength and is set to debut a new collection titled Magnifique at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney tonight.
The collection pays homage to the current state of the world trying to crawl out of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a few battered bruises here and there.
“Magnifique was created at a time when the world was experiencing somewhat of a modern renaissance period, emerging from the worst of COVID,” she said.
“We knew that there would be shift in how we wanted to express ourselves. This inspired the bright colours and dramatic silhouettes in this collection.”
The dynamic duo are partnering with Maybelline makeup director Jade Kisnorbo and leading Australian hairstylist Joey Scandizzo for the brand’s highly anticipated runway show.
