Lidl recalls popular product due to health fears

Lidl is the latest major supermarket to recall a popular product due to health concerns.

In an important notice detailing the circumstances of the recall, Lidl GB stated: “Our supplier, Potts Partnership Ltd is recalling the above-mentioned product due to potential contamination of product with listeria monocytogenes.

“Listeria monocytogenes can trigger severe gastrointestinal conditions and symptoms similar to the flu.”

The supermarket outlined what customers can do to keep themselves safe.

The notice read: “If you have bought the above product we advise you not to eat it. Customers are asked to return this product to the nearest store where a full refund will be given.”

Product: Potts’ Truffle Mayonnaise, 230g

Batch affected: All stock with best before date July 2024 and batch code 18823

No other Potts’ products in Lidl GB stores are affected by this recall.

The supermarket apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers and thanked them for their cooperation.

Lidl GB’s official website reads: “This recall is not applicable in all areas. Please speak to customer services to understand if your local store is affected.”

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) echoed Lidl’s advice and issued a risk statement: “The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product listed above.

“Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

“Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.”

The FSA advised: “If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead return it to the store you bought it from for a full refund. For further information contact [email protected].”
