Why PSG are suspending Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, will be facing suspension following an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia. The PSG star went to the middle-east country for two days without the club’s permission.
As a result, PSG are set to banish him for two weeks, as per French outlet RMC Sport. Lionel Messi is said to be still waiting on official communication from the club, but an informal decision has been carried out with the former Barcelona superstar.
The 35-year-old is also coming to the end of his two-year contract at the French club, and it looks likely the contract will not be renewed. It is also reported the Argentine is going to be suspended without salary for the upcoming two weeks.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb tweeted images of Lionel Messi and his family’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia.

PSG are currently on top of the Ligue 1 table, with a 5-point lead over 2nd placed Marseille. Messi’s suspension means he won’t be taking part in their next two games in the league. They play ESTAC Troyes on May 8 and then host another relegation-threatened AC Ajaccio on May 14.
The Argentina international joined the Paris outfit in 2021, and has scored 31 goals in 71 appearances so far.
