Lionel Messi’s car drives through red light into oncoming traffic

There is no suggestion that Messi, 36, was driving the car but is believed to have been inside the vehicle, according to rolling news reports from Argentinian TV channel TyC Sports. Their footage shows a white car driving through the traffic lights, with the two patrol cars following in tow and narrowly avoiding multiple collisions while entering the outside lane.

Several onlookers were seen filming the incident as it took place. After the car carrying Messi evaded the others on the road, it established itself by getting up to speed without stopping for the junction.

The incident comes as Messi prepares to officially become an MLS player. An event Sunday will be held at the team’s DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale where he will be officially introduced to supporters.

After weeks of build-up, supporters will soon get their chance to see Messi doing what he does best out on the pitch. While this weekend’s MLS game away at St. Louis SC comes too soon, as it takes place the day before The Unveiling, Inter Miami’s next match should see the World Cup winner make his debut.

That game at home on July 22 is the opening game of the team’s Leagues Cup campaign and sees them welcome Liga MX club Cruz Azul. Another match-up four days later, July 26, should see Messi facing American opposition for the first time as an Inter Miami player when they host Atlanta United.

Their next MLS regular season game is not for another month when Charlotte FC is in town. Inter Miami will hope to have Messi in action for the US Open Cup semi-final against Eastern Conference leaders Cincinnati later this month.
