Despite a strong link with a move back to his old club Barcelona, the former La Masia prodigy decided to ply his trade with Inter Miami. He also had offers from Saudi Arabia but the 35-year-old chose to turn down those offers to join the Florida-based club.
But how are Inter Miami as a club as of now? Well, Messi has a lot of things to do. Inter Miami are currently languishing at the bottom of MLS’ Eastern Conference. They have been abysmal this season and don’t look like making it to the playoffs, unless Messi does some magic after his official arrival.

Most of the Indian clubs are ranked higher than Messi’s Inter Miami in Football Database’s Club Rankings. Inter Miami is ranked 1580 in Football Database’s rankings, far behind most of the Indian clubs. They are 126th among the North American clubs, whereas sit 23rd in terms of clubs in the USA.

Mohun Bagan, East Bengal Club Rankings
ISL Champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants are ranked 635 in the Football Database rankings, the 3rd best among Indian clubs.
Their Kolkata rivals East Bengal are ranked 800th among the clubs in the world, still far ahead of Inter Miami.
Other Indian Clubs’ Rankings
ISL 2022-23 runners-up Bengaluru FC are sitting ahead of Inter Miami as well, as they are ranked 933. Kerala Blasters FC are below Inter Miami though, with a global rank of 2154. But this year’s ISL Shield winners Mumbai City sit in the 1492nd place, ahead of Lionel Messi’s club.
Chennaiyin FC have a rank of 1976, whereas former ISL champions Hyderabad FC are sitting in the 1635th position in the world.

Why is Inter Miami ranked lower than Indian clubs?
Inter Miami is ranked lower than the Indian clubs because of their history. Football Database considers the total history of a club and the ranking is only based on those stats and huge database over the years.
Being just a five-year-old club, Inter Miami is yet to crack up those numbers and it can be expected their rankings will get better in coming years, and after the arrival of Messi, it can only get accelerated.
